Introduction to Encaustic Painting Workshops

This 3 Session/12hour Workshop at KSL Studio provides an in-depth study of the ancient medium of heated pigmented beeswax and is designed for artists that want to incorporate encaustic technique into their own art making practice. Learn the fundamental safety issues, unique tools, and necessary equipment for studio set up, as well as various materials, supports, grounds, encaustic resources and beginning guidelines for painting with a molten medium. Discover alternative ways to draw, paint and add dimension to your work using solvent-free techniques that include brushing, layering, fusing, inlay, incising, collage, and image/drawing transfers. This introductory workshop will examine essential historical examples as well as contemporary work being exhibited today. Be inspired in this highly creative and experimental environment! Supplies and informational materials are provided.
