This new 6 Week Class at Artist and Craftsman Supply provides an in-depth study of the ancient medium of heated pigmented beeswax and is designed for artists that want to incorporate encaustic technique into their own art making practice. Learn the fundamental safety issues, unique tools, and necessary equipment for studio set up, as well as various materials, supports, grounds, encaustic resources and beginning guidelines for painting with a molten medium. Discover alternative ways to draw, paint and add dimension to your work using solvent-free techniques that include brushing, layering, fusing, inlay, incising, collage, and image/drawing transfers. This introductory class will examine essential historical examples as well as contemporary work being exhibited today. Be inspired in this highly creative and experimental environment! All equipment and informational materials are provided. R&F Encaustic Paint and Encaustic gesso, panels and brushes are recommended for you in our Encaustic Supply Starter Kit, purchased separately at Artist and Craftsman Supply. Open Studio Nights are for artists who have taken classes or workshops at KSL studio (or can show previous encaustic experience) and want to continue exploring encaustic in a space where excellent ventilation, encaustic equipment, and tools are provided. You supply all paint, medium, and panels. Open discussion is welcome about all things encaustic, exhibitions to see…..technical questions….studio set up…..How do I make medium?....
